I’m bringing a bit of inspiration to you today. 🙂 Any Tic Tac Toe fans in your family?
We have a history of checkers in our family. I used to play it with my grandpa as a very young girl. I remember clearly, too, that grandpa always played to win. As a result, he raised some very good checker players in his granddaughters. If we wanted to win, we had to learn to play well.
When this handmade Tic Tac Toe project came to life, I thought it could be a sweet gift to a grandmother who always played Tic Tac Toe with her grandkids.
Rachel, from Courage and Birch, sent me a message a couple months ago. Rachel has been a favorite addition to my Instagram feed this last year. She makes beautifully designed birch slices. They’re an absolutely charming addition to rustic home decor.
She had a grand idea to combine two delightful forms of handicraft to make an extraordinarily cute rendition of a simple Tic Tac Toe game. I created some patchwork mats with many of my favorite fabrics, and Rachel designed some small birch slices appropriate for playing this common game.
Rachel found some mint green tins for storage and wrapped them all up nicely in a burlap bag. I made three different versions of patchwork mats pictured below. I attempted a bit of coordination with Rachel’s Xs and Os, but since scrappy is usually my favorite form of design, I didn’t get too matchy matchy.
Perfect for an end table in a living room, you think?
These have been listed in Rachel’s Etsy shop, but as with many wonderful ideas found these days, feel free to use them as inspiration for your own creation of Tic Tac Toe. These simple mats are a great small project. With a little help from a saw, you could be painting your own playing pieces. Be sure to let me know if you try out your own version.
