What is my favorite part of quilting?

The answer may surprise you.

The actual making of the quilts is not my favorite part. Is that strange? I don’t necessarily mind sewing (I actually do absolutely love hand quilting though), but a project never goes by without some sort of frustration.

Either my sewing machine has trouble going through chunky intersections. Maybe I crawled around for an hour basting a huge quilt only to find a ripple right through the middle. I find that my pillow cover isn’t square or I did my math wrong and something didn’t come out as expected.

So what keeps me going on the never ending creative journey of quilting if it’s often frustrating?

I LOVE the fabrics, and even more than the fabrics themselves, I LOVE combining fabrics. I like pairing designs and textures and designers and different lines. Eclectic is my favorite. I don’t try to match, but I do try to have an overall cohesive feel.

Considering my FAVORITE part of the quilting process is the fabric combinations, I surprised myself when I couldn’t stop looking at the Then Came June Basics Bundle.

And you know what? I purchased it. I bought the Then Came June’s Basics Bundle from Handmade is Heartmade on Etsy. The colors and textures sucked me in. They top part of the bundle looks like summer, but I find the addition of the black and whites at the bottom perfect.

Want to see what I purchased with this delicious bundle? (I apologize for all these electronic pictures. I’ll take better ones once the fabric comes in the mail!)

I couldn’t wait to show you all what I ordered today. Have you ever read my posts about my quilting journey?

Here’s one about The Evolution of My Sewing Room. Or The Year I Become a Quilter. Or Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. The short and skinny of these posts is my obscene amount of fabric purchases in 2017 and then refining my skills in 2018.

And you know what? I still have quite a bit of that fabric from 2017. I have purchased very little fabric since 2017. Until today.

The cartons above are from a new line called Clementine by Melody Miller. They are as summery as summer can be. The entire line is bright and cheerful and fun. I ordered my prints from Handmade is Heartmade.

Here are a few shops that carry Clementine:
Handmade is Heartmade
Hand Cut Fabric Co.
Shop in the Making
Fat Quarter Shop

Pop! by Rashida Coleman Hale

The pop bottles above are from the line Pop! by Rashida Coleman Hale.

You can find some of the prints from her line at:
Handmade is Heartmade
Fresh Modern Fabrics
Sojo Fabrics
Expressions in Thread

And, yes, I purchased MORE strawberries.

Strawberry Fabric. Darlings by Ruby Star Society

These strawberry prints have graced my sewing room for some time now, and I have not grown weary of them yet. They are from the Darlings line by Ruby Star Society. These strawberries come in other colors, but if you are wanting to purchase any at all, you may want to sooner than later. The entire Darlings line is getting harder and harder to find. I don’t know if shops will restock them or not.

Only blue is left at Handmade is Heartmade.
Only red is left at Kimberly Kight Studio.

Friends, I just linked a lot of small online shops here. Please PLEASE don’t forget your local quilt shop may have some of these prints too! Don’t be afraid to call and ask to purchase from them too.

What’s my plan with these fabrics? Right now, I want to make a bunch of triangle pillows for my Etsy Shop. Or maybe log cabin pillows. I’m thoroughly enjoying making both those blocks! I’ve recently finished two very large quilts for our living room, and I have one more throw sized one I’m finishing for our home as well. I’m ready to sew for the shop a bit!

But with four children and homeschooling and building a house, who knows what will happen! 🙂
