Twenty Things about Me

I’ve never done a post like this before but thought it could be a little fun. 🙂 In random order, here are twenty things about me. Nice to meet you!

1. We just bought a chicken coup and are raising nine little chickens. We don’t know yet if they’re hens or roosters, but we’d like to have a few layers when this is all said and done. We keep them at my parent’s house since we can’t have chickens in our city limits.

2. I just finished reading Hannah Coulter and Heidi. I just ordered The Awakening of Miss Prim. I don’t consider myself an avid reader, but I am always slowly reading something.

3. I really enjoy eating chocolate.

4. I plan to homeschool my children. This was a rather simple decision for us, and we haven’t veered from this path since we made the decision. That being said, I’ve never homeschooled a day in my life. I’ll start this fall with my five year old. My sentiments may change. 🙂

5. You’ll find me at Aldi about once every other week for our grocery shopping. It’s really the only place I tend to grocery shop anymore.

6. We bought a tiny Casita camper last year that we pull around with our minivan. We’ve had some fun weekends camping with our family.

7. My husband and I have been married over eight years now. I prayed daily for a husband for many years not sure if I’d ever have one. I walked down the aisle at age 26. I’m a blessed wife.

8. I do not enjoy listening to lectures. Even in college, I skipped class whenever I could.

9. With the boom of the online world, my husband and I have made greater efforts to shop local. I shop at my local quilt shop when I can, but I still do the majority of my fabric buying online.

10. I drive a mini van, and I don’t want to change that.

11. I love to garden, and I wish I could spend more time pulling weeds. Our garden is out at my parent’s house with our chickens. I drive the 3 1/2 miles to their house a few nights a week after our children are in bed.

12. Learning to take my kids outside was one of the best and most helpful habits I learned as a mother. I resisted this for a while, but I’ve learned to enjoy being outside in almost any weather. When my first born was one year old, we were rarely outside. Most days right now, my three boys and I are outside four or five hours a day.

13. I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I’m thankful I have the hope of Heaven woven through every decision and relationship and project I encounter in life.

14. I have three little boys that I stay home with. They bring me so much joy amidst the many hard things of motherhood. It’s so very sweet to see my older two sit cuddled up in a chair together looking through the pages of a book. It drives me nuts when my children fight over which chair to sit in at the table.

15. I wish I could draw. Drawing has never been something I’ve devoted much time to, and I’d like to learn alongside my children as they learn to draw.

16. I went away to college in Indiana and studied music theory and composition. After I graduated, I came back home to where I grew up and have used that knowledge of music in more ways than I can count and in more ways than I ever imagined. I also came out of college with a business degree. I pursued that degree for the sole purpose of practicality in case I had to work and make money the rest of my life.

17. I am the middle of three girls.

18. I enjoy decorating my home, and my husband and I have found ourselves with many home projects right now. My husband is finishing our basement. It’s almost ready for drywall. We just had floor to ceiling bookshelves installed to prepare ourselves for the great number of books we’ll acquire through the homeschooling years. We have the tile already purchased for when we remodel our bathroom. And, I’d really like to paint our kitchen cabinets until we decide to invest in a new kitchen.

19. My husband has told me repeatedly that he didn’t know he married a quilter. My hobby of quilting and sewing didn’t really gain speed until the year after we were married.

20. We don’t eat out much. Spending money at restaurants is one of my least favorite ways to spend money.

Do we have anything in common?

  1. Hi, Kelli! Just found your blog and think it’s delightful! As a middle school librarian, I think you are doing the absolutely right thing in homeschooling your sons. The argument against it y saying they don’t learn social skills is bunk! I find that all the students in my area know each other , if not thru school, then sports, dance, play dates, or use of public library or recreation /museum interaction. Keep them safe! Your Dresden plates Quilt caught my eye! I too have one I’ve been working on for a while. As a librarian, may I recommend Pollyanna too! Read you later!

    1. Hi Jeanette! Thanks for your encouragement! I know there will be bumps in the road as we submerse ourselves in homeschooling, but I’m still looking forward to it right now.

You’re working on a Dresden quilt too? Good for you! Mine is taking so long, but I’m motivated to keep going and finish it…one day…hopefully within the next five years.

I’ll add Pollyanna to my list. 🙂

  2. Thanks! love this! Yes, I didn’t take my kids outside much…didn’t learn it wish I would have, but really I don’t like the sun, not that it doesn’t have it’s purpose! ha, but I’m fair skinned, have had skin cancer and just can’t be in the sun PLUS I sweat big time! :)…I don’t love spending $ in restaurants either. I admire homeschoolers, but I know I couldn’t have done it, my kids are grown. Thanks again.

    1. Hi Di, thanks for sharing a bit about yourself! It’s been good to meet you on here! And I can understand why the sun is not your best friend. 🙂

I admire homeschoolers too. I haven’t homeschooled a day in my life yet though…so I don’t know if I can do it yet. We’ll find out this fall.

  3. Hi Kelli,
I’m a big fan of your quilting! We actually do have a lot in common even though you could be my daughter. I love chocolate, I recently read Heidi, I’m a slow but constant reader and my husband says all the time that he didn’t know he married a quilter. Very nice to meet you!

    1. Hi Flo! Your t-shirt quilts are so inspiring! I’ve never made one but need to add it to my list. Those quilts are full of memories!

You recently read Heidi too?! So fun. I told my husband I need to read simple and delightful books like that more often. Such a sweet story. Good to hear more about you too!
