Big Patch Quilt by Hopewood Home

My favorite part about quilting is the fabrics. I love the fabrics. The patterns, textures, and colors are beautiful, and when you combine them into a patchwork quilt, everything gets better.

I’m not an intricate piecer. I’ve never sent a quilt away to be quilted. Most quilts I sew are not detailed patterns that I’ve purchased. They are simple patterns with relatively large squares. My eyes are drawn to the fabrics, and I want to see their patterns.

When I stumbled across this pattern by Hopewood Home, I was smitten. It’s the perfect quilt to display an array of fabrics that I don’t want to cut into small pieces. Also, at a time of life where very little of my week can be spent quilting, it’s a good pattern to keep quilts to a project that only lasts a couple months.

I cut all the fabrics and pieced this quilt in approximately two hours.

This quilt has currently been basted (not pictured), and I’ve already attached the binding, but it is not quilted yet. I’m taking it with my to Family Camp this week where I hope it can be hand quilted by all the ladies there. I’m excited to see how this goes. I’ve never hand sewn with a group, and I’m sure I’ll learn as much as they will.

This quilt definitely took on an earthy almost vintage feel, and I’m loving it right now. With autumn right around the corner, the browns in here feel very appropriate.

The backing? It’s called Strawberry Thief by William Morris. I purchased it here on Etsy. It’s perfect. Vintagey perfect. A little dark and moody.

Many of the other fabrics in this quilt are from the Warp & Weft Heirloom line by Ruby Star Society. They’re textured and great blenders. I purchased mine from Fabric Party on Etsy, but there are many places to purchase it including:

Amazon
Modern Quilter
Handmade is Heartmade
Many places on Etsy

I have a feeling I’ll be coming back to this pattern time and time again for a quick and refreshing, yet beautiful project.
